The Text of the letter is as follows

Dear friends,

Protesting for a better deal for the environment and future generations in Brazil

I’m am standing for the Labour nomination in the Lewes Constituency after years of activity in the Labour Party, Students’ and Trade Unions and local community politics.

I am a campaigner by nature, believing that we can create a better tomorrow. I care passionately about Lewes; from an early age going door to door getting signatures to save the Pells Pools to supporting pupils and parents taking the county’s decision to close St Anne’s school to government adjudication.

My Background

1483205_10153542342420007_1160560307_nI grew up, went to school and college, in Lewes. In 2001 I was elected member of the UK Youth Parliament for Lewes and Wealden and represented the constituency nationally.

For many years I bought into the lie that only the Liberals could keep the Tories out. In 2006 when I moved to Bradford, to study and then to work, I saw first hand the damage a Con-Dem coalition could do, and how easy the LibDems supported neo-conservatism. My experiences in Bradford and then working in Brussels for Socialist Education International made me determined to fight for  Labour when I moved back to Lewes in 2012 election.

I’ve experience of campaigning in Bradford and Lewes and recently stood as Labour-Co-operative in Lewes Bridge Ward taking our vote in 2007 from the 7th to 2nd Party. The message Labour can & will win here is what I want to spread in the 2015.

My work

541816_634000063311147_626858614_nI’m Vice-President of the European Youth Forum campaigning for youth rights and youth services. In this role I hold an observer seat in the Council of Europe and the UN. I also hold a post in UN sustainable development negotiations, which I’ve been part of since 2002.  In the past I was a director of a housingassociation and co-operative café. My experience in the mutual, public and charity sectors means that I understand different economic, environmental & social issues.

My affiliations

I am a proud Trade Unionist, originally as a member of Unison and now of Unite the

Union. I oversaw a strengthening of the Woodcraft Folk’s relationship with the Unions during my time as chair. I’m a member of CND and was national treasurer of the anti-fees campaign within NUS. I’m a member of the Co-operative Party, LGBT Labour, the Labour Campaign for International Development and a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

We must make inroads into the minds of the electorate in Lewes, Seaford, Newhaven Polegate and surrounding villages. I believe we should aim to at least double our vote and win some council seats. We can only do this ward-by-ward and my experience of campaigning locally, nationally and internationally; on the street and in the TV studio will be the key to a successful campaign.

I believe places like Lewes & Newhaven should be our natural territory – both for different reasons, but both partly because of the mismanagement of the LibDem ruling elite and the aspiration that Labour can offer ordinary people.

Jobs, Food and Housing

Lewes is not as affluent as we tend to think; there are 4 food banks and not enough housing in the district. The care for elderly is on its knees and youth services have been run down. We need to get on the ground and campaign on local issues that have national solutions.

With jobs often further away in Brighton or London and their expensive commutes many people are struggling – we can offer the opportunity to be free from the fear of poverty.

Economic growth cannot just rely on the rich getting richer and an increase in the number of poverty pay jobs – decent work for all, a living wage and a fair progressive taxation system needs to be our calling.

Campaigns don’t happen by themselves, they are run and won by dedicated teams of volunteers, my experience in developing volunteer teams will be vital. I hope that you will be on board with our campaign.

I am willing to come and talk to local branches and affiliates to explain my vision and plan. Check out www.russell-moyle.co.uk and contact me on 07899785265 or lloyd@russell-moyle.co.uk
