This is an issue that I have long taken a stance against and will be campaigning to oppose this within Parliament – and I’m proud to back Labours recent manifesto pledge:

Labour will ban fracking because it would lock us into an energy infrastructure based on fossil fuels, long after the point in 2030 when the Committee on Climate Change says gas in the UK must sharply decline.

I don’t believe that shale gas is the answer to the UK’s energy challenge and believe that the environmental risks associated with fracking are too high. I want to see greater investment in renewable energy and creating energy efficient homes. Energy efficiency and renewable energy could deliver new jobs and help to lift people on low, fixed incomes out of fuel poverty.

I will continue to work with parliamentary colleagues to oppose fracking and ensure the UK moves toward more renewable energy sources.
