Lewes Labour: Defending Teachers

The Tory-led government has led a campaign to undermine teachers by demeaning what they do in the classroom as well as threatening to make drastic changes to their pay,

conditions and pensions.

The conservatives and Liberal Democrats have  even suggested that teachers in poorer areas should get less pay, despite the fact that have to work harder to get the same results than in other areas. Teachers are working harder than ever, but getting even less credit.

The Education Minister has accused teachers of not putting in enough hours and not relating adequately to students.  Teachers have been also blamed for last year’s riots and young people not getting jobs.

Labour knows the importance of education for all, of supporting teachers and ensuring all our young people get the facilities and education they need.
